Ponce Transformation
If you’ve driven along Ponce de Leon Avenue in recent months, then you’ve noticed the multiple construction sites and change in progress. A recent redevelopment proposition has been in progress on Ponce de Leon Avenue blocks, beginning at the BeltLine‘s Eastside Trail, and working east toward John Lewis Freedom Parkway. Urbanize has recently released the first sketches provided by Portman Holdings of what this major development could shape up to be.

Early concepts suggest that a residential building may be the future of this redevelopment on the north side of Ponce. This residential building would be approximately 354 units, 38,000 square feet of retail space, and a large portion would be dedicated to office space.

The area in question stretches from the BeltLine to the VESTA Movement Gym. Currently, Portman and the famous avenue landowners are in contact and it’s said that a few of them have engaged in conversations and signed letters of intent to sell.

Portman has scheduled virtual and in-person meetings with the public to gather feedback before moving forward with the project. There was a meeting at Bookhouse Pub, one of the cherished businesses in question, on November 7th and another on November 16th. The details have yet to be released.

Portman’s CEO, Ambrish Baisiwala, said while he’s discussed with the landowners and established agreements, nothing is set in stone. Baisiwala told Urbanize, “the deals might not materialize if feasible plans can’t be formulated that please the neighborhood.”
