Midtown Welcomes Connector and Massive Green Space Concept

by EV Atlanta

The residents of Midtown highly anticipate the new “Midtown Connector”—known to be the grandest of Atlanta’s highway-capping park ambitions to date.

The Atlanta Regional Commission has recently announced the addition of a 10-block green-space concept that would stretch from 10th Street down to North Avenue.

This project is estimated to cost between $800 million and $1.2 billion and is designed with the intent to increase park space for pedestrians and cyclists, enhance safety and street connectivity, and improve environmental components like the air quality or stormwater retention.

According to the MCP Foundation, the spearhead for this project, this park would increase the local street network by 150% and the protected routes for pedestrians and bikes by 3.5 miles. And the masterminds behind this project, including Atlanta BeltLine leader Paul Morris, anticipate it has the potential to reduce interstate accidents by 52%, travel delays by 37% in northbound lanes and 13% southbound, while also decreasing car collisions on Midtown streets by 15%.
