New on Howell Mill: The Interlock, 8West, and more.

Positioned at one of West Midtown’s busiest corners, Howell Mill and 14th Street., sits one of the area’s most anticipated new developments, The Interlock. Having initiated construction in November of 2018, the $750 million mixed-use development will establish an influx of new and diverse businesses to the burgeoning neighborhood.
The first phase boasts 200,000 square feet of office space, 100,000 square feet of retail, a 160-key hotel, 350 apartments, 45 single-family homes and 18 short term rental flats. The 2nd phase will include 42,000-square-feet of grocery space, 35,000 square feet of retail space, 160,000 square feet of office space, another 160-key hotel, and almost 300 units of student housing.”
The Interlock has managed to obtain many new tenants despite its late opening, with 65% of the planned office and retail space already leased in July of last year. Some notable tenants include Georgia Tech VentureLab; a Marriott Tribute hotel; a technology-driven mini-golf experience, Puttshack; and St. Germain French bakery
There are also plans for a public-accessible rooftop experience by the designers of The Roof at Ponce City Market. Plans include a lounge and pool-club, complete with a sparkling infinity pool, and a 12,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant and outdoor bar.

Located a few blocks away is another hearty project that was slated to be completed this year, 8West. A $150-million, 9-story, 200,000-square-foot, mixed-use project at 8th Street and Howell Mill Road. While construction is still underway, the previously scheduled opening set in Spring 2020 has been missed, with many now anticipating the official opening sometime next year.
Once complete, 8West will offer 175,000-square-feet of office space, 10,000-square-feet of ground-level restaurants, and retail, along with 264 apartment homes.
Howell Mill’s prominent evolution doesn’t stop there. Located at 11th and Howell Mill, construction is well underway on two sites, straddling both sides of Howell Mill, that make up Star Metals. An expansive 1.7-acre property in 2018 with plans to build a 14-story office tower called Star Metals Offices. One tower will offer 185-square-feet of office space, along with a rooftop restaurant that will provide panoramic views from downtown to Buckhead.

At ground level, 30,000-square-feet will be dedicated to retail, shopping, and dining options that will border the project. Adjacent from the primary office and retail tower will be a 409-unit luxury apartment building, providing an unparalleled live-work community in one of Atlanta’s most coveted corridors.
Atlanta has seen tremendous growth over the past decade. In West Midtown alone, there have been over a half-dozen major projects that have drastically augmented the area. And with so many high-profile projects set to be completed over the next year, the desire to live and work in one of the city’s most exciting neighborhoods will only become stronger.
