Latest Beltline Developments

Since its birth in 1999 by Georgia Tech student Ryan Gravel, the Beltline has been a constant force of change for Atlanta. From breweries to condominiums, the landscape surrounding the trails has adapted to the demand of the neighboring constituents. Crafted as a marathon, not a race, the project has been a driving factor in the tenants of the adjacent communities.

A mixed-use development is slated to call the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood home with ground breaking November 13. The property, named Waldo’s after philosopher and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, will house office space, restaurants, townhome residences, retail space and a boutique hotel adding up to occupy over 200,000 square feet. The eco-friendly project is going to be constructed out of less traditional building materials, such as concrete and steel, resulting in a decrease of emissions. The development is slated to be completed in 2021.

Heading south down the Beltline to the Summerhill neighborhood, expect to see new restaurant tenants as well as a nationally recognized grocery store. It has not been announced which chain will move into the neighborhood but it will certainly help to fill a grocery void in the area. Since the closing of Turner Field and transition to Georgia State Stadium, Summerhill and the surrounding communities have seen a surge in commercial tenants as well as rising prices and demand for residential real estate. The proximity to the Beltline is a testament to how influential the trails have been around the city.

On Atlanta’s Westside, construction is underway for the Quarry Yards project next to the Bellwood Quarry. This project has a more long-term timeline and is projected to include a park, an affordable housing component, office spaces, residences, and will house commercial tenants. The goal of the developers is to provide connectivity from the Southwest neighborhoods of Atlanta all the way to the Upper Westside part of the city, following the path of the future Westside Trail sector of the Beltline.

Following the trail to the Northeast, construction of a maintenance access road has begun that will connect Ansley Mall to the Buford Spring Connector. Georgia Power is spearheading the project which is predicted to be complete in the Fall of 2020.
