Best Places to Get Festive in Atlanta in the Fall

With the changing leaves and crisper weather, Atlantans are welcoming Fall with open arms. While the summer heat wasn’t as severe as years past, the cool weather eases us into the excitement of the Holiday season. If you are brave enough to trade your comfy slippers and fireside hot cocoa for a sweater and boots, head outside to take advantage of some of the Fall activities Atlanta has to offer.

Just outside of the city in Buford, GA you will find one of the more comprehensive seasonal destinations sitting atop 38 acres. The Buford Corn Maze, at 4470 Bennett Rd Buford, GA 30519, is fun for all ages and offers hayrides, a haunted forest and a large pumpkin patch. Guests are provided with a map to navigate their way through the maze and are also greeted by staff members along the way to endure everyone makes it through. Upon exiting the Maze, a 15-minute hayride awaits, taking you on a tour of all corners of the land. The haunted forest is just spooky enough to get you in the Halloween spirit, but not too scary for the little ones. There is also a kids CORNer with more kid friendly activities including a bounce house and animal viewing area.

If you care to venture a little further North, take advantage of some of Georgia’s apple orchards. With the temperatures in the Fall months ideal for the apple trees to thrive, Georgia’s crop is perfect for incorporating into seasonal recipes like warm apple pie or hot mulled cider. Mercier Orchards is a family owned farm in Blue Ridge, GA that has been in operation since 1943. Offering a multitude of services including U-pick, a self-picking event, a Market Store, a Bakery, and a Farm Winery just to name a few. Other offerings include strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, peaches, plums, and nectarines. Northeast of the city in Alto, GA be sure to visit Jaemor Farms, named for the members of the Echols Family who have operated the facility for 107 years. In the Fall months, in addition to their diverse produce offerings such as peaches, strawberries, blackberries, muscadines and more, Jaemor gets in the festive spirit by adding a corn maze, a pumpkin patch and canning classes to the calendar. Another event at the farm ony offered in the Fall is Flower Daze, where guests can pick their own zinnias and sunflowers on Saturdays and Sundays in the month of October.

Not feeling adventurous enough to leave the city? Have no fear, just take a visit over to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens where you can experience Scarecrows in the Garden. Dozens of local artists from professionals to youth groups have contributed to this exhibit in hopes of taking home a first, second, or third place prize. The exhibit is free for members and runs from October 1 to November 3, 2019.
